Leadership Experience
Janalee has 20 years of progressive leadership experience in business, education and community development. She has served as a senior consultant to organizations such as the National Academy Foundation, the Arkansas Department of Education, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the National Association of Elementary School Principals and others. Currently, she is working on the Kansas Learning Network, a large-scale educational change project, with the consulting firm Cross & Joftus.
In early 2006, she and her family embarked on a two-year adventure in Latin America. During this time, she took time away from her education and consulting work to serve as Vice President and Chief of Staff at the Vines of Mendoza, a multinational wine and vineyard firm located in Mendoza, Argentina.
Janalee helped build the Vines from the ground up—she developed an organizational framework and management structure for the bilingual company; created and implemented staff training programs; provided consultation to the CEO and senior leadership team; lead strategic and operational planning processes; and oversaw the company’s Tasting Room business unit. Her efforts enabled the Vines to develop a very positive international work culture, while at the same time generating successful business outcomes. And, today the Vines continues to grow, despite the global economic downturn.
In 2003, Janalee founded her own education research and program development business, where she provided consulting support to a number of national associations, foundations and non-profit organizations.
Prior to that, she served as Senior Program Officer for K-12 and Community Programs at the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation. There, she led the development of a premier national fellowship program and training institute for teachers, provided grants and technical assistance to community-based organizations and coordinated a large-scale community-school coalition project, funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
Facilitation and Learning
An accomplished presenter and facilitator, Janalee has conducted over 100 workshops and training sessions on topics such as: leadership; business and strategic planning; school and community collaboration; educational equity; and connections between in school and after-school learning. She has served as an Advisor to NASA Student Programs and the U.S. Department of Energy Student Science Competitions program, and as an invited grant-reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF).
She is also a Senior Consultant to Collaborative Communications Group, a consulting firm specializing in education issues, and Cross & Joftus, an education consulting organization.
