Bringing Environmental Education and Service Learning Together
The last decade has led to a substantial increase in the number of agencies, organizations and educators who recognize the importance of building a scientifically literate and environmentally engaged citizenry. At the federal level, there are common threads among a number of federal agencies that fund environmental education, science education and service learning. Similarly, a number of nonprofit organizations are combining these disciplines to train our next generation of leaders.
While these disciplines are beginning to converge, there has been precious little time to exchange ideas across fields. To bridge this gap, Crecer Strategies brought together some of the leading environmental education and service-learning advocates from nonprofits and federal agencies. The meeting served as the beginning of a conversation about how we can all work together to maximize our impact, leverage our resources and identify new ways to meet common goals.
